The Fit Guide: Measuring Yourself, Properly
Share
Most women wear the wrong shapewear size — not because the product is wrong, but because the measurements are guessed. And when shapewear is too small, it usually creates the exact opposite effect: discomfort, rolling, digging, and visible lines under clothing.
A proper fit starts with three simple measurements: bust, waist, and hips. Use a soft measuring tape and stand naturally without holding your breath or pulling the tape tightly. Your waist should be measured at the narrowest part of your torso, while hips should be measured at the fullest part.
One of the biggest mistakes women make is sizing down for “extra compression.” In reality, good shapewear should smooth and support without restricting movement. If you can’t comfortably sit, breathe, or wear it for several hours, the fit is too aggressive.
Different outfits also need different levels of shaping. A lightweight bodysuit under a knit dress feels very different from firm support under formalwear. That’s why building a small collection for different occasions usually works better than relying on one ultra-tight piece for everything.
At ShapeLab, we focus on support that feels wearable in real life — not shapewear you can only tolerate for an hour.
